Pearl Harbor & Diamond Head

Miles Monday: 1.7

Not much to report for Monday. I am getting up with Jaron at 5:00 and passed out after bkst with every intention of working out. I dragged my ass out of bed to have lunch across the street and decided to stroll down the main drag for the afternoon and scout for hoodies.

Miles Tuesday: 3.4

Much better day today. I went on a Pearl Harbor tour at 7am. I didn’t realize that tickets to the U.S.S. Arizona memorial were in limited supply so I lucked out choosing this tour. I went thru the museums, watched the movie, and then it was time for my group’s boat ride out to the memorial. There were a lot of reminders to act respectfully. Here is the memorial and parts of the U.S.S. Arizona you can see from the memorial which appears to have been built over the top of the sunk ship. We were allowed to take pictures inside the part of the memorial with all of the names on the wall, but it didn’t feel right to me so I didn’t. There were 45 survivors who chose to be buried with their shipmates who were trapped in the U.S.S. Arizona, and that was probably the most moving part of it for me.

Afterwards I went to hike Diamond Head with Jaron’s coworker’s wife and we had a great time. 750 ft of elevation over 0.8 miles (1.6 out & back). We drove through a tunnel and then also hiked thru a pretty long tunnel. It was beautiful and the weather is really perfect here.

Dinner was some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. I think Jaron’s coworker’s wife is my food soulmate. 🄰 It was at a former gas station with outdoor seating under the awning, and the bathroom was outside. There was a chicken running loose. Jaron dropped a big piece of his ahi tuna on the ground, picked it up, blew on it, and ate it. I waited for the bathroom by the propane tank and dumpster. I remembered to take food pictures this time!

Finally, a trip to the grocery store for bkst and hiking snacks.
