Today we went camping at Branbury State Park in Vermont. Julie read about how lean-to’s are a thing so we decided to try it.

Our lunch spot was flying a Maryland flag and had Maryland crab cakes and cream of crab soup on the menu. The chef’s wife grew up in Annapolis!
We got to camp and started setting up. Our lean-to faces a wall of rocks, which was perfect. The site next to us was hosting a couple with a baby. I will have to add the video(s) when I get home. It could have been a lot worse. They seem like very kind and attentive parents. Booking last minute, all the good sites are gone. There were 3 of us pretty close together, but everyone was quiet.

It’s a big lean-to, but we do have a small tent.

Jaron did 3 firewood runs. A bundle of firewood fit in his topcase.

Julie set up the tent and bedding. We sat for a while in the serenity punctuated by baby sounds.

When it started cooling down, Julie figured she’d better get a shower over with. I deleted the 3 paragraphs about my shower endeavor bc no one cares. Let’s just say that I had to put my dirty clothes back on twice and walk up the goddamn hill twice. Thanks for nickel-and-diming us with the showers after charging $59 to camp, Vermont. I didn’t come here for dumbass bureaucracy and lessons on hill-climbing. The staff were super helpful and kind.
Texas State Fair Chili and Poblano Corn Chowder for dinner, by Pack It Gourmet. We were both too full for a s’more. Jaron is tired of carrying around the s’mores and was really looking forward to getting rid of them. He actually called them the bane of his existence. So Julie will carry them to the next camping spot.
In the morning there was no dew anywhere, which was nice. Back on the road again, to Syracuse tonight.
