Charging through Sydney

We slept late after staying up late after a late arrival. We had coffee bags in the room, but Julie has gotten spoiled and needed real coffee (a large flat white). Jaron spent some quality time with the car owner’s manual to figure out how to turn off all of the noises. I definitely would have gotten in to a crash with how many noises it was making plus driving on the wrong side of the road.
We spent the morning getting oriented and looking at the weather and decided to go to the zoo. It was in a different area than Julie remembered, about 45 min away. We got Chinese for a late lunch on the way. After lunch we got in the car and realized that the car clock was an hour late, just like our last one and that there wasn’t time for the zoo. (This car has forced software updates, so why TF the time is wrong I’ll never know.) It turns out it was the wrong zoo and that Julie’s not crazy. Tho it is Taylor Swift’s favorite zoo. https://www.smh.com.au/culture/music/we-investigate-why-taylor-swift-went-to-sydney-s-second-best-zoo-twice-20240223-p5f78a.html
So we will go to the Taronga Sydney zoo tomorrow.
What to do with half an afternoon? Julie said, how about we go to the bookstore? Jaron decided to try charging the car on the way. Between that and being confused by the in-dash navigation, it took an hour to get there and we only had an hour before closing. Retail businesses close at 5:30 or 6:00 in Australia. Weird. You know what else is weird? Julie didn’t get any books.
Just kidding!
We got middle eastern tapas for dinner. Google maps now shows elevation gain on walking routes. We had a 44m of rise over a 550m walk = 8% average grade. Really got that heart pumping.
Marinaded eggplant. Mmmm.

Fish of the day.

We watched the MotoGP race this evening, which incidentally is in Australia this weekend. At first we thought it was a sign from heaven, but it was really far out of our way so we didn’t go. Oz is a big place, 96% of the landmass of the contiguous US.
