11 riding days (+ 1 R&R day)
Friday morning we were only 3 hours from home taking the fast way. But, we decided to take the fun way since we’d had so many crap rainy days recently. So we had a good old fashioned twisty ride day and had ice cream at Hoffman’s in Westminster, our go-to ice cream stop.
This was across the street from one of our stops today. Turns out it’s a flea market, but I think it’d be a fine name for a church.

This was a fun trip. You go to Michigan for the lakes, not the roads. The roads were pretty straight with a small number of exceptions. I’m really glad I went on this trip and “proved” I recovered from my wrist surgery. We had zero issues or incidents. Neither one of us even dropped a bike.

The food was pretty “meat & potatoes.” We had local fish a couple of times and it was really yummy.
The camping was beautiful. I wish we’e had more time to do more camping. My favorite day was when we camped at Port Crescent with the lakefront spot.
The R&R helped us look forward to going home. And the hospitality was awesome. We intentionally avoided corporate and franchise hotels/motels on this trip (except for the last night when there was nowhere else to stay).
Here is the list of things I brought but didn’t use:
Tank top
Sandal socks
Water filter
Camp towel
Tarp
Turns out this is a practice recommended by Bret Tkacs https://youtube.com/c/BretTkacs , a youtuber in the adventure riding scene that we really like. His explanations are very technical (vs hoo rah like a lot of other personalities in motorcycling). We made sure we were home by Friday so we could see him in person at our favorite motorcycle shop, Bob’s BMW https://www.bobsbmw.com/ . Julie is a Patreon supporter of his and dropped him a line to that effect earlier in the week. Friday night he sent a message out to his Patreon supporters asking if anyone wanted to have breakfast. We thought, do we really want to wake up early tomorrow? Well, we did. (At 6 this morning I said, we got home 12 hrs ago.) We had a great conversation over bkst and then served as his camera crew for the event. (Will update this post with the link when it goes live.) It was an awesome way to end our vacation.

(He is definitely bending down in this picture — he is way taller than me.)
