Not a lot to report today. Had a nice morning packing up camp and got on the road. Stopped for ice cream. Took a break at a park and secured lodging at a B&B. Had dinner at a restaurant recommended by our host. The B&B was perfect.
Tomorrow we’ll hit the Makinac Bridge.

Had an awesome breakfast this morning at the Presque Isle Lodge. We were the only guests last night and still got a hot breakfast from our host. He has hosted 4 biker weddings and came out to see us off because he wanted to hear how our bikes sounded. This would be a great place to have our annual Sibling (Dys)function, but I’m not sure about the location relative to everyone else.
We went to the Presque Isle Lighthouse to see some carnivorous plants Julie read about. The Lighthouse guide knew what I was talking about but said they were really hard to find. So, no dice.
We went over the Makinac bridge. It was really pretty. The wind kicked back up which made it kind of exciting. It kept threatening to rain on us but all we got were some sprinkles when we got to the campground.
Got ice cream for lunch for the 3rd day in a row.
Camping tonight at Monocle Lake. I guess “monocle” sounds more interesting than “circle”…? Our site overlooks the lake. Not quite as spectacular as last night but still very cool. We took our chairs down to the beach and ate dinner there, and went back down as the sun set.
Jaron did not have his glasses on and asked me what something on the shore was. He asked if it was a person. I didn’t think so. We looked for a minute or two. It could have been a large piece of driftwood with a teal piece of something on it. Then it started moving! It WAS a person after all! As we went up the stairs, she asked if we knew anything about mushrooms. She had seen a really cool mushroom but didn’t have cell service to check if it was ok to eat.
Expecting a low of 50 tonight. The last time we camped it was 54. Jaron’s sleeping bag is rated for 45, so it’s really pushing it. Julie’s bag is rated at 35 but needs it warmer than most so will be sleeping in layers again. It is windy AF.
Oh and apparently the theme for this trip is sloped campsites. Our site on lake Huron was pretty steep and so was this one.
The trees here were dropping a lot of acorns, especially in the wind. When walking to & from the bathroom I heard a bunch fall at once and thought, I hope one or those doesn’t land on my head! And they are pretty loud from inside the tent.
